The Lakewood Church Central Campus (formerly known as The Summit and Compaq Center ) is a church in Houston , Texas .

History and use

Until 1998 it was a multi-purpose hall for sporting events such as hockey and basketball and served as an event arena for concerts by international musical greats such as Prince (1985), Eric Clapton ( 1990 ), Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson ( 1988 ). In 2005 it reopened as a church. The foundation stone for the building was laid in December 1973. The complex was designed by Lloyd Jones Brewer & Associates and Walter P Moore with funds of 27 million US dollars completed until November 7 1975th Today it is owned by Lakewood Church . It can accommodate 17,000 visitors.
