Fireflies ( German glow worms ) is a pop song of the music project Owl City , which was released as the first single of the second album Ocean Eyes . The song debuted at number 97 on the Billboard Hot 100 , later became a hit, peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The album peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200 .
Music video
In the music video for Fireflies , Adam Young plays on his synthesizer in a toy- filled room where most ( astronaut , robot , etc.) come to life . Directed by Steve Hoover. The video premiered exclusively on Owl City's MySpace page , but was posted on YouTube hours beforehand.
Commercial win
The song reached number 38 on the Billboard Rock Charts, number 27 on the Alternative Charts and number one on the Hot Digital Song Charts. The song debuted at number 97 on the Billboard Hot 100, but became the most downloaded dance pop single of all time and thus reached number 1 on the iTunes charts; on November 7 and 21, 2009, the song rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In summary, the song spent a total of two weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has been downloaded 1,574,678 times in total. The song also reached number 2 in the Canadian charts and number 1 in the Canadian digital song charts.
Charts
Fireflies reached number six in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the top 10 for seven weeks and in the charts for 33 weeks. For Owl City this was the first of two chart successes in the German single charts. To date, none of his single has been able to rank higher or longer in Germany. In 2010, Fireflies took first place in the annual charts in the German airplay charts , making it the most played radio hit of the year. In the annual charts of the German single charts, the single was ranked 36th.
