Sarah Nicole Harding (born Hardman ; * 17th November 1981 in Ascot , Berkshire , † 5. September 2021 ) was a British singer , songwriter , dancer , model and actress who as a member of the British pop - girl group Girls Aloud became known.

Adolescence

Harding was born in Ascot, Berkshire, and raised in Staines , Surrey , and Stockport , Greater Manchester , with their two half-brothers. Her father was a musician and took her to music studios at an early age, arousing her interest in music. She attended Hazel Grove High School from 1993 to 1998 and later Stockport College, where she studied cosmetics. When she was 15, her father separated from her mother; since then she has had no contact with him.

Harding later worked in a nightclub at Grand Central Leisure Park in Stockport and also as a waitress at Pizza Hut and temporarily as an operator in a call center. On the side she gave some self-organized performances to promote herself as a singer. She sang in pubs, clubs and parks in North West England. In 2002 she recorded some dance songs. She then applied for the British talent show Popstars: The Rivals . She also applied to the Fame Academy casting show , where she did not make it to the next round. With Popstars: The Rivals , on the other hand, she was able to convince directly.

Career

In a lengthy competition, Harding and nine other women and ten men were selected by the jurors Pete Waterman , Louis Walsh and Geri Halliwell for the final of pop stars . On November 30, 2002, the remaining girls: Harding, Nadine Coyle , Cheryl Cole , Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh formed the girl group Girls Aloud.

Harding wrote two songs for the band, Hear Me Out - appeared on the album What Will the Neighbors Say? - and the B-side to the single I Think We're Alone Now called Why Do It? .

Solo career

In 2010 Harding became the owner of the Kanaloa nightclub . In March 2010, she announced that she was working on a solo album. She referred to Lady Gaga as her greatest influence and inspiration. The album was supposed to be released in late 2010, but that didn't happen. In an interview with the UK's Daily Mirror , she said: “I am really looking forward to have freedom and do my own thing. In the band we had to agree on what to do ourselves. Now I can do what I want. ”She meanwhile recorded three songs for St. Trinian's second soundtrack album, titled Too Bad , Make It Easy and Boys Keep Swinging . She also worked with London-based synth pop band Filthy Dukes on the song Real Wild Child to the soundtrack for Wild Child (2008).

In early August 2017, Harding took part in and won the TV show Celebrity Big Brother .

Other activities

Outside of Girls Aloud, Harding signed a £ 100,000 modeling deal with Ultimo, following Penny Lancaster, Rachel Hunter and Helena Christensen .

Harding became the face of the Coca-Cola Zero campaign in Ireland and also promoted the hair care product Sunsilk with her Girls Aloud colleagues .

In December 2009, Harding appeared on MTV's Sarah Harding in 24 hours . To promote this gig, she spoke to Chris Moyles on Radio One about the special.

Acting career

Harding had her first acting appearance in the film comedy The Girls of St. Trinian (2007), in which she played the member of a school band that consisted of the Girls Aloud members. In 2008 she starred alongside Donna Air and Claire Goose in the movie Bad Day , where she played a brunette girl named Jade Jennings .

In 2009 Harding was seen on the British TV show Freefall , where she mimed Sam . In the same year she starred in The Girls of St. Trinian 2 - A Treasure Hunt as Roxy .

Personal

In 2002, Harding entered a competition to be accepted into the FHM 's High Street Honeys .

Harding was in a relationship with DJ Tom Crane from 2007 , engaged from 2010, initially separated in 2011 and again in 2012 and finally separated from Crane. In 2012 she also had a short-lived liaison with Dutch Theo de Vries and a six-week affair with fellow actor Danny Dyer . In 2014, an almost two-year relationship with DJ Mark Foster broke up. In 2017, she was in a three-month liaison with US TV star Chad Johnson, whom she met in the same year at the joint Celebrity Big Brother participation.

In October 2011, Harding went to a rehab center in Cape Town, South Africa, because of an alcohol addiction as well as sleeping pill abuse and depression .

On August 26, 2020, Harding confirmed that she had been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She succumbed to the disease on September 5, 2021 at the age of 39 with her family.
