Fight for This Love is a song by British singer Cheryl Cole from her debut album 3 Words . In the United Kingdom and Ireland , the song was released on October 16, 2009 by Cole's record company Fascination Records as the first single on the album. In 2010, the song was released in the rest of Europe by Universal Music as the album's second single.

background

Fight for This Love is Cole's first solo single outside of her girl group Girls Aloud . The song was written by Steve Kipner, Wayne Wilkins and Andre Merrit, and a demo recording of the song was sung by Merrit.

The song is a up-tempo - R & B - Pop -Titel with synthpop - and Dance -Einflüssen. The song counts 123 beats per minute . Cheryl Cole's vocal range goes from E 3 to D 5 . After the breakdown in the middle of the song, some musical instruments were replaced by clapping hands, some media reported that Cole's voice was completely comparable to Whitney Houston's . New Musical Express magazine noticed similarities between Coles and Kelis ' 2007 Lil Star title , but Cole rejected all similarities. Meanwhile, other media outlets reported Fight for This Love had the same chord progression as All My Life by K-Ci & JoJo. Fight for This Love was later covered by British boy band The Wanted and is included on the B-side of their number one hit All Time Low . On the B-side of Fight for This Love , the title will Did not I .

criticism

Fight for This Love was largely praised by music critics.

Ruth Harrison of Female First was impressed by the song and hoped that Cole would stay solo all the time and not return to her girl group Girls Aloud . She said, “It sounds a little bit like Girls Aloud , we love it and we suspect it will be a huge hit in the clubs. (...) We think that this song will make her a global megastar in her own way. "

Popjustice also praised the song, saying, “ Fight For This Love is definitely not a Girls Aloud single with someone singing the title… it's one of those songs that you can listen to for hours in a row and you won't get bored. One thing that will impress you - well, is that really Cheryl's singing? Singing the song is a very big surprise ... At the end of the song she sings great - strong, gentle, clear and direct. Like a successful pop singer, who vocal sets the I-peg on her works. It is an almost magically successful production ... "

Digital Spy’s David Balls was less impressed, stating that “Cole’s vocals are not strong and believable” but they have “the sweet British charm of X Factor ”. Regarding the song itself he said: “Cole did her first solo single more than well. Fight For This Love is a wonderful pop R&B track with a synth-inspired melody and a catchy hookline that eats away consciousness after just a few repetitions of the song. "

Fraser McAlpine said, "Cheryl recorded something that was very different from Girls Aloud , she did it all like a masterly."

Music video

Ray Kay directed the music video . It was filmed in London in early September 2009 .

The music video begins with a casual Cheryl Cole, wearing a white tank top, lots of make-up and black gloves, behind her is a large group of black-clad dancers. Cole starts with some dance choreographies. Various scenes during the music video show Cole dancing in a full body leopard catsuit . On the walls in the background you can see lines of text from the song.

Promotion and appearances

Great Britain and Ireland

The single premiered on Chris Moyless' breakfast show on BBC Radio 1 on September 7, 2009 . On October 18, 2009 the title was released for download in the UK. Cole sang the song live for the first time the same day during The X Factor Live Results Show . She wore a military outfit by Welsh fashion designer Julien MacDonald during the performance . It consisted of a full body catsuit , a red military jacket with black buttons and other details. The outfit itself received a lot of media coverage in the British press. The media also speculated whether the X-Factor appearance was full playback, which Cole rejected. The show, which also included Whitney Houston's first appearance in six years, brought the casting show a record 14.8 million viewers.

On February 16, 2010, Cole sang the song at the BRIT Awards 2010 , where she and her dancers were initially "catapulted" onto the stage.

Cole also got media attention again when she sang the song at the Brit Awards without her wedding ring. This was followed by reports that her husband Ashley cheated on her. Cheryl Cole didn't want to comment on this.
