Jamie Lawson (* 1975 in Plymouth ) is an English singer-songwriter .

biography

Jamie Lawson grew up in the city of his birth, Plymouth, and began playing guitar when he was eight. During school he played in cover bands and at 17 he went to Ireland as a pub musician . It took eleven years for his debut album Last Night Stars to be released in 2003. Another seven years passed before album number two was released with The Pull of the Moon . For a song on it, Wasn't Expecting That , he also put a video online, which was discovered and played in 2011 by Today FM . The song then entered the Irish charts and reached number 3. The album also made it into the charts, but an album that was immediately followed up and named after the single hit was even more successful. It reached number 11 in Ireland. But Lawson neither succeeded in transferring the success to his home country Great Britain, nor was he able to build on the success in Ireland.

A second attempt was only made in 2015. After his great success that year Ed Sheeran had founded his own label called Gingerbread Records and signed Jamie Lawson as the first artist. Wasn't Expecting That was tested on the Australian market back in April and, like four years earlier, it reached third place in Ireland. It was also awarded double platinum . The song was released in the UK in early October and climbed to number 6. The album Jamie Lawson followed a little later . It debuted at number 1 on the UK charts and reached the top 5 in Australia and Ireland. It also made it to the US album charts , but it only lasted a week. At the beginning of 2016 Wasn't Expecting That was published in other European countries and hit the charts in Germany, among others.
