Bobo in White Wooden Houses is a German indie rock band around the singer "Bobo (lina)".

Band history

Called Christiane Hebold (1967 *) "Bobo" (also called "Bobolina"), a pastor's daughter from Gräfenhainichen , started a girl band with 13 years. Later she studied singing at the Musikhochschule Weimar and wrote her first own songs. In 1990 she met the guitarist Frank Heise in Berlin and founded the band Bobo in White Wooden Houses with him . Not only was their first single Hole in Heaven a success, the song Wide Awake also helped the band win the Leipzig rock competition in 1990, making the band the first of the East German indie scene to gain a foothold in the post-reunification period. The three sound carriers Bobo in White Wooden Houses (1992), Passing Stranger (1993) and Cosmic Ceiling (1995) were released. The band not only achieved high sales figures, but also was nominated as a German contribution (Video Travel in My Mind ) at the MTV Euro-Video-Grand Prix 1995 - a kind of counter-event to the Eurovision Song Contest, which was taking place at the same time .

With the suicide Frank Heises (1995) the original line-up of the band broke up and from then on Bobolina devoted herself mainly to her daughter Flora Camille and several solo projects. In 2004 Bobo reunited with a new line-up at White Wooden Houses. In 2010 Bobolina, Axel "Lexa" Schäfer, the new guitarist and producer Jan Stolterfoht and the new drummer Christian Kohler recorded the new album Transparent . As a guest on a song, ex-member Andrew McGuiness was on the drums.

Bobo as a solo artist

From 1996 Christiane Hebold continued to work as a soloist and as part of other bands and projects. In 1996 the single Black Hole Sun was released with the London Session Orchestra , the album Glow followed shortly thereafter. She was then a guest singer with the group Rammstein and their hit Engel and part of the group Alaska, with whom she worked on songs for three years. A complete album was even created, which was produced but ultimately never released. Then the band broke up and the musicians went their separate ways again from 2001. In the same year a collaboration with the group Saal Drei followed, which improvised ambient music in churches. Together with the pianist Ulrike Haage (formerly Rainbirds ), Bobo worked on radio play productions and sang songs for them. In 2004 there was also a collaboration with the DJ duo Blank & Jones . The single Perfect Silence made it to number 46 and stayed in the German charts for 7 weeks.

The group Bobo in White Wooden Houses has existed again since 2004. First in a completely different line-up, from 2007 again with Lexa Schäfer and initially also Andrew McGuiness on drums, the formation plays live again and brought out a self-distributed tour CD (2004) as well as the studio albums Mental Radio (2007) and Transparent (2010) launched three more plates.

The artist has also been working with the composer and pianist Sebastian Herzfeld under the name Bobo + Herzfeld since 2004. The two are in the field of experimental music, folk and world music and have released several studio and live albums. The album Blick in den Strom was released in September 2018.
