Kosheen
Kosheen were a band from Bristol , Great Britain , founded in 1999 , consisting of singer Siân Evans , Mark Davies ("Markee Ledge") and Darren Beale ("Darren Decoder") from Glasgow .
Band history
The two male members originally come from the punk scene, while Evans first sang in various jazz and R-'n'-B bands.
The band's name came about during a visit to a tattoo studio and is composed of the Japanese words for “old” (古, ko) and “new” (新, shin). It is supposed to express the stylistic claim to combine modern electronic music with classical songwriting .
Kosheen's goal was to produce a more "open" type of drum and bass that was suitable for the stage. The first single was called Hide U , the first album Resist (2001). In 2003 the second album, Kokopelli , was released, which showed clear elements of rock music , while the drum-and-bass influence had greatly decreased. The third album, Damage , was released in March 2007 and went more in the direction of danceable tracks, borrowing from synth pop .
An appearance planned for November 3, 2007 in Belgrade caused protests . The concert was to take place on the old exhibition grounds on the right bank of the Save, which was used as a concentration camp during the Second World War . Around 50,000 people were killed in the “Semlin Jewish Camp”, including almost the entire Jewish community of Belgrade, which had around 8,000 members. Kosheen canceled the concert.
On February 13, 2012, the single Get a New One was released . The video premiered on Kosheen's Facebook page that same day. The second single was Spies . The album Independence was released in May 2012. On November 29, 2013, their fifth studio album, Solitude, followed .
