history
The story of Delirious? begins with the Christian youth event Cutting Edge in Littlehampton, where Martin Smith, Tim Jupp and Stewart Smith played as a band. In 1993 the first cassette with six self-written songs was released, several hundred of which were quickly sold. The band was initially named after the youth event The Cutting Edge Band . Over the next two years, Stu G and Jon Thatcher joined them and three more tapes were released.
In 1996 the five decided to turn their hobby into a profession, called themselves Delirious? and founded their own label Furious? Records . The following year three singles and the first studio album "King of Fools" were released, which reached number 13 in the British charts. Otherwise there was little success in Great Britain, but Delirious? gain a foothold in the Christian music scene. You have written numerous worship classics, such as I Could Sing of your Love forever , History Maker and What a friend I've found . A lot of sound carriers could be sold especially on the American market (gold for cutting edge ). In the beginning, the "s" was written as "5" (Deliriou5?) In the band's logo . In 1999 the logo was changed, the letter could now be interpreted as “5” or “s”. However, the official spelling of the band name was always Delirious? . In some texts about the band, however, the unofficial spelling still appears.
In 2003 a contract was signed with the BMG sub-label J-Star . In March 2004, Delirious released? then in Germany the single Inside Outside , which successfully entered the radio charts ( even at number 1 on SWR3 ), and the album World Service . In September, the second, but less successful single, Every Little Thing, was released on the German market. In November 2005 the album The Mission Bell was released . The release of the next album Kingdom of Comfort took place in April 2008.
At the end of January 2008, Stew Smith (drums) announced that he would be leaving the band in May in order to devote more time to his family and his own graphics studio. He was replaced by Paul Evans, who jumped in on the 2006 US tour. Evans is from the same church as the rest of Delirious? and played drums for Matt Redman and Cathy Burton , among others .
On July 6, 2008, the band announced the breakup in late 2009 in a press release. According to his own statements, this decision was triggered by the wish of the band leader Martin Smith to be able to devote himself to other projects (mainly aid projects in the 3rd world) and his family.
In November 2009 the band said goodbye with the "History Makers - Farewell Tour" in eleven European cities. The tour began in mainland Europe and ended in London (Hammersmith Apollo), with a sold out concert with 5000 people.
