Deep Blue Something is an American rock band . She was best known for her hit Breakfast at Tiffany’s .
Band history
The band Deep Blue Something was founded in Denton , Texas in 1993 by four students, Todd and Toby Pipes, Kirk Tatom and John Kirtland. That same year, the band released their first album, 11th Song , a lo-fi production that was distributed through a small record label in Dallas .
After the four band members had completed their studies, they pursued the music business alongside their actual professional careers. With the second album Home (this time released on a major label ) came the big breakthrough, the single Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1994/95) became a world hit. The song is about a relationship between two people who, according to the woman, have drifted apart. The only thing she admits to having in common with her partner is that they both like the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's (“we both kinda liked it”). Tours and numerous television appearances (including Top of the Pops ) followed. In the meantime, guitarist / background singer Kirk Tatom had been replaced by college friend Clay Bergus. As a result of the chart success, singer and bassist Todd Pipes lost his job as a teacher in a Christian private school, as his parents feared the rock musician's bad influence on their children.
Motivated by the success of the song Breakfast at Tiffany’s , the first album 11th Song was re-released. This led to years of legal battle between the band and the record company, as the band found the album to be of poor quality for a new edition and wanted to prevent its release. The other records Byzantium (1998) and Deep Blue Something (2001), after which the band withdrew from the public , also suffered from the legal disputes .
The Pipes brothers founded their own recording studio / record label in Dallas called Bass Propulsion Laboratories , while Clay Bergus is the manager of his wife 's gourmet restaurant, Perry’s . Toby and Clay are members of The Hundred Inevitables from Dallas; Toby is also part of the band Calhoun , which was founded in Fort Worth , Texas in 2004.
