The Strumbellas , also known as Bellas for short , are a six-piece Canadian folk pop band from Toronto .

Band history

The band was founded in 2008 by singer and songwriter Simon Ward. He started out as a musician in the small Canadian town of Lindsay before joining five other musicians to form the Strumbellas and moving to Toronto. A year later they released their first self-produced EP with the band name as the title. After that, it was three years before their first album, My Father and the Hunter . It earned them a lot of attention and a nomination for a Juno Award in the Roots & Traditional Album category . In 2014 the follow-up album We Still Move on Dance Floors was released on the Six Shooter Records label . They were nominated again and this time they also won the Juno Award. With the album they were also successful across national borders and were able to place themselves in the top 10 of the US bluegrass charts.

The label Glassnote Records released their third album Hope in spring 2016 , with which they entered the official charts in the USA for the first time . It was created in collaboration with US producer Dave Schiffman. The big international breakthrough came with the single Spirits . In Europe, the song was able to place itself in the top 20 of the official charts, especially in German-speaking countries and in Italy. In the US it reached # 1 on Modern Rock Tracks .
