Celtas Cortos (Spanish for the short / little Celts ) is a Spanish rock band with strong Irish folk influences. In the course of time there was also contact with metal , ska , flamenco , son cubano and even techno .
Band history
They were founded in 1986 in Valladolid . They emerged from the band Almenara. Four more joined the four members of this group to take part in a music competition. They won this under the name Colectivo Eurofolk , which they later changed to Celtas Cortos.
They won the recordings for their first album at another competition in April 1987. However, they had to share the CD with two other winners (Ágora and Yedra). The result can be heard on the disc Así es como suena: folk joven .
The first independent, purely instrumental album Salida de emergencia was recorded with the help of Paco Martín . On the second album Gente Impresentable , Jesús H. Cifuentes (Cifu) contributed the lyrics and the vocals. The Celtic rock style was eventually combined with politically critical and melancholy texts. In the course of time there were also influences from Caribbean music, flamenco , electro and reggae . The Celtas Cortos are known for their hits 20 de Abril , La senda del tiempo and Tranquilo Majete, among others .
In 2002 there was a turning point in the band's history when, after César Cuenca and Nacho Martín, Cifu also left the band. However, he returned to the band in 2006 to record the album 40 de Abril with them 20 years after the band was founded .
