Keziah Jones (born January 10, 1968 in Lagos , Nigeria as Olufemi Sanyaolu ) is a Nigerian singer and guitarist who has developed his own hard but driving funk style with his rather minimalist "blufunk" .

Live and act

His percussive guitar playing is extraordinary . He mainly uses acoustic or semi-acoustic guitars , some of which he plays with electric bass techniques such as slapping .

The accompanying instruments, often just drums and electric bass , are strongly integrated into this rhythm, so that some grooves are reminiscent of crossover bands such as Rage Against the Machine or Red Hot Chili Peppers . Keyboards, especially organ sounds, or wind instruments are only used subtly. According to their own statements, Keziah Jones was influenced by Fela Kuti and Jimi Hendrix .

In 2017 Jones released the EP Rugged Covers , on which he interpreted a song each by Antônio Carlos Jobim , Fela Kuti , Prince and The Stranglers .
