Livingston is a rock band from London founded in 2002 .

history

The Livingston story began in 2000 in Pretoria , South Africa, when guitarist Chris van Niekerk met Beuke's Willemse at a concert. The two hit it off right away and played music together for two years. When Willemse realized that the dream of his music career could only be fulfilled if he left South Africa, he made his way to London, Van Niekerk followed him.

In London, after various jam sessions, the two met their first bassist, the Dane Martin Arnoldi, who was replaced in 2005 by the Norwegian Christoffer Borud and finally by today's bassist Phil Magee, who comes from England. A short time later, the Italian drummer Paolo Serafini also found his way into the band. Finally, the German Jakob Nebel, who was discovered by Willemse one evening, joined the band. The members also incorporate their different cultural backgrounds into their music.

The band name is based on the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull ( German : Die Möwe Jonathan ) by Richard Bach. Willemse says of the book: “The book is about not being like everyone else, but about leaving your own track on the road of life. Don't be afraid if you don't follow the generally applicable rules. To live your own dream. "

After a few recording sessions at the legendary Abbey Road Studios and a live show at MTV Studios in London in 2006, Manta Ray Music signed the band. In Los Angeles they recorded their debut album under the direction of Al Clay.

As a support band for various artists such as Revolverheld , Blind , The Duke Spirit, Ich + Ich and Thomas Godoj , Livingston also became active in Germany from 2007. Her single Broken was released in Germany on September 25, 2009 . Her debut album Sign Language is a fitting album title, as Serafini explains: "Such symbols are especially important for us, as we all come from different cultures."

Her song Go became the ZDF Olympic song on the occasion of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver .

On January 18, 2010, Livingston made a guest appearance in the soap Gute Zeiten, Schlechter Zeiten als Sie sich . In June 2010, they also played themselves in the German telenovela Eine wie keine .

In autumn 2010 Livingston accompanied the band Apocalyptica on their tour across Europe and in 2011 a support tour with Unheilig followed . In spring 2012 Livingston were on their own tour, "FireToFire" Part 1, which was continued in autumn 2012.

On March 30, 2012, their second album Fire to Fire was released .

At the beginning of the FireToFire Part II tour, in October 2012, the band's drummer, Paolo Serafini, announced his departure after ten years in the band.

In the spring of 2013 Livingston were on an acoustic tour across Germany and had Jan Siekmann with them as the drummer for this tour, who previously worked as a drummer for Bakkushan .

After the termination of the record contract with Universal Music , Livingston withdrew to write new songs for their third album Animal . In spring 2014 Livingston presented their songs to the audience for the first time on a tour in Germany and signed a new record deal with SPV .

In March 2014 they accepted an invitation to Los Angeles to attend the Global Rock Summit.

On May 30, 2014, the band released the single Human .

Chemicals is the second single from the new album Animal released on September 19, 2014 in Germany . In June 2015 the first live DVD was recorded in Hamburg. In January 2017 there was a new tour through 5 German cities. After this tour the guitarist Jakob Nebel leaves the band after fifteen years with the band.

On November 29th, 2019 the band will release their new single "Sabotage".
