The Night Game is an American band that mainly makes music in the alternative rock and new wave areas.
history
The band was founded in 2016 by singer-songwriter and music producer Martin Johnson . By this time, Johnson was already responsible for the lyrics of numerous songs by internationally known artists and had also been part of the pop-rock band Boys Like Girls since 2005 . Due to his work for top international artists, he mostly worked in the background and found himself in a career crisis, as he missed the energy he had felt in his younger years through appearances and his own performances. After the founding, The Night Game spent time writing songs and also appeared in smaller concerts in the club scene, but at least always on a small scale. The band, which was supplemented by the Australian artist Kirin J Callinan , mostly appeared under the proper name Impossible Color . Furthermore, Johnson was also supported by other musicians in live performances. The band's debut single was released on April 12, 2017; this was called The Outfield . The song first appeared on Billboard , with Johnson speaking in an interview with the company about the single and the beginnings of his new project. The Australian music producer François Tétaz supported the band in the writing, recording and production of The Outfield and introduced the band to the Belgian-Australian musician Gotye . Among other things, he contributed the background vocals for this first single. Within two weeks of The Outfield's release , the song was discovered by multiple Grammy Award winner John Mayer via Spotify . Mayer listened to the song, contacted the band shortly afterwards and engaged them as the opening act for half of his summer concerts.
After The Night Game accepted Mayer's offer, the band marketed this as The First Tour and appeared 30 times as opening act for John Mayer on his The Search for Everything World Tour . This was followed by their own concert appearances in July and August 2017. During the tour, the band played a full set of songs at each concert, although at the time they had only released a single single intended for the public. As a result, a large number of new listeners paid more attention to the band and asked for other titles by the group. This was also fueled by the band's rise in followers on social media. After the first tour, Johnson revealed further work. On August 22, 2017, the music video for The Outfield was released , in which the British musician Dev Hynes appeared as a director. Almost two months later, on October 20, 2017, the single Kids in Love was released from the album of the same name by Norwegian DJ Kygo , a collaboration between Kygo and The Night Game. A band version of the song was then released on February 2, 2018. Towards the end of 2017, the first successes with The Outfield were followed by a new song with another music video; Once In A Lifetime was released on November 16, 2017. The band's photographer and cameraman Michael Hili was the director of the music video.
In January 2018, Johnson announced on social media that the band would start the spring with the new American Nights Tour ; supported by guest musicians The Band Camino . The 16- dated tour takes The Night Game across the United States with debut appearances at the Innings Music Festival , Shaky Knees Music Festival , BottleRock Napa Valley and Firefly Music Festival . On January 19, 2018, the single Once In A Lifetime entered the Austrian single charts and has been there for eight weeks (as of March 9, 2018). Already with Kids In Love by Kygo feat. The Night Game & Maja Francis made it into the Austrian charts at the beginning of November 2017, but only stayed there for a week and then dropped out of the ranking again. The Night Game released their fourth studio single on February 23, 2018. This is called Bad Girls Don't Cry . The release of a debut album also took place in 2018. The appearance of the band in the German soap opera Good Times, Bad Times on June 18, 2018 made the band known to a broader public in the German-speaking area outside of social media and the relevant music scene.
