The Association
The Association was an American pop group . With the singles Cherish (1966) and Windy (1967), the band , which was mainly successful in the second half of the 1960s, made it to the top of the US charts twice .
history
The formation, founded in Los Angeles in 1965 , received a record deal with Valiant Records in 1966 . The first single, Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You in June 1965 and One Too Many Mornings / Forty Times in December of that year, have not yet made it onto the charts. It was not until the spring of 1966 that Along Comes Mary was placed on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number 7. The song was not played by some radio stations because "Mary" could also be interpreted as a shortened version of "Mary Jane", one of the numerous scenes -Synonyms for marijuana . The song hit the charts again in 1999 in a heavily alienated cover version of the Bloodhound Gang .
In 1966 and 1967 further million-seller followed : Cherish and Windy / Never My Love . In 1967 the group moved to Warner Records . After a last top 10 hit in early 1968 with Everything That Touches You , the group's success waned and there were several line-up changes. In the early 1970s, the band was briefly under contract with Columbia Records , in 1973 they reached the top 100 in the US singles charts with the title Names, Tags, Numbers & Labels . In 1980 the original members, with the exception of the late Brian Cole, got together again for a brief reunion. The resulting production, published by Elektra Records , remained meaningless; the single Dreamer was placed at number 66 in the US charts.
The tracks Cherish , Windy and Never My Love were awarded gold records, as were the albums And Then… Along Comes the Association and Insight Out . The album Greatest Hits sold so well over the years that the band received a gold record for it in 1969, platinum in 1986 and double platinum in 1989. In September 1999, a list of the songs most played on American radio and television for the past fifty years was published. The song Never My Love took second place after You've Lost That Lovin 'Feelin' by The Righteous Brothers and before Yesterday by The Beatles .
In 2003 the group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame . In 2018 the group went on tour in the USA again. The current line-up consists of: Jim Yester, Jules Alexander (original members, both guitar), Bruce Pictor (drums), Del Ramos (Larry's brother) (bass), Jordan Cole (Brian's son) (keyboards, guitar) and Paul Holland (guitar ).
