Grangeville (officially City of Grangeville ) is the largest city and county seat of Idaho County in the US state of Idaho .
history
From the 1860s to the 1870s, the first prospectors crossed a meadow in the Camas prairie on the way to Florence and Elk City , where today's Grangeville should be. The parish was incorporated in 1897 and was given status as the capital of Idaho County in 1902.
location
Grangeville is on the edge of the Camas Prairie and by the Nez Perce National Forest and Clearwater National Forest . The place is accessed from the west by US Highway 95 and from the east by Idaho State Highway 13 . In Grangeville is the western end of Idaho State Highway 13. At Grangeville some rivers with the names Snake River , Salmon River , Clearwater River and South Fork Clearwater River , Selway River and Lochsa River flow .

Until 2000, a Grangeville had its own railway connection via a section of the Camas Prairie Railroad opened in December 1908 . Grangeville was the southernmost point of the network of this railway company. In April 1998 this was acquired by North American RailNet . The new owner received approval from the Federal Surface Transportation Board in 2000 to close the route because it was no longer profitable. The last freight train left Grangeville station on November 29, 2000. Passenger operations had already ceased in August 1955.
