Warren is an unincorporated community in southern Idaho County in the North Central Idaho region in the Payette National Forest near the Frank Church – River of No Return Wilderness .
history
Warren was founded in 1862 by prospectors as one of the oldest settlements in the state of Idaho in the Washington Territory . The population quickly rose to over 2,000, and many Chinese lived in the village. After the mines were closed, the population fell rapidly, but saw an upswing again in the 1930s due to dredging ship mining. A small mining operation still takes place these days.
Warren was a victim of forest fires in 1989, 2000 and 2007 . This gave the place importance in the so-called morel hunts .
traffic
Warren is isolated on a forest road, the 340 National Forest Development Road .
