Kuna is a city in Ada County , Idaho . The population in 2010 was 15,210.

geography

Kuna lies at an altitude of 821 meters above sea level. The city center is about 18 miles southwest of Boise , Idaho's capital.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the area is approximately 47.1 km², of which 46.8 km² is land and 0.3 km² is water.

South of Kuna are the Kuna Caves created by an underground lava flow . A small river, the Indian Creek , which originally was not always water-bearing, flows through Kuna , which is now supplied year-round by the New York Canal with water from the Boise River and which is used to irrigate agricultural areas.

history

Kuna was originally a stopover on a railway line to Boise. According to the Kuna Chamber of Commerce, Kuna translates as The end of the trail , in German 'The end of the path'. According to other sources, the name comes from an Indian language and means green leaf, good to smoke .

Demographics

In 2010 there were 15,210 inhabitants. The population grew by about 182% over the past decade. The population density was 325 inhabitants per km². About 94.6% of the population is white, 0.6% are African American, and 4.8% are other.
