Moon Martin

John David "Moon" Martin (born October 31, 1950 in Oklahoma ; † May 11, 2020 ) was an American singer and songwriter .

Career

Martin began his career as a rockabilly musician. In the 1970s he became known as a pop singer and composer. Moon Martin got his nickname shortly after the band Southwind broke up , when he worked by day and wrote lyrics and composed at night in the moonlight, but also because the moon was often the subject of his lyrics, as he said in an interview with the Musikexpress .

He was best known as the composer and lyricist of the songs Bad Case of Lovin 'You (Doctor, Doctor) , sung by Robert Palmer , and Cadillac Walk , sung by Willy DeVille . The successful especially in the 1960s group The Association had with one of his compositions, Dreamer , 1981 again a small hit. Moon herself had minor hits with Rolene , No Chance (1979), Love Gone Bad (1981) and X-Ray Vision (1982). Bad News from his third album Street Fever is one of his other well-known songs . In 1983 Bette Midler recorded his song My Eye on You, which is unusually rocking for her repertoire, for her album No Frills .
