Robin Scott

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robin Scott (born April 1, 1947 in Croydon , London ) is a British singer and musician. In the late 1970s he landed an international hit with the single Pop Muzik under the name "M". The song was one of the first commercially successful New Wave / Electropop productions.

biography

Scott attended Croydon Art College in the late 1960s. At this time he was performing as a folk singer in London and released his first album under the title Woman from the Green Grass . He was also part of David Bowie's regular backing band for some time . In the 1970s, Scott produced a number of bands on his own record label , including Roogalator and Adam and the Ants .

In 1978 Scott moved to Paris and published there for the first time under the name "M" - the name is derived from the signs of the Métro Paris  - the single Modern Man . It was not a success. With his second publication, however, he achieved a world hit. Pop Muzik stormed the British charts in April 1979 and rose to number two there. With some delay the single reached number one in Germany in June 1979 and stayed there for six weeks. Finally, in November 1979, “M” also made it to number one on the US Billboard charts.

This was followed by three more singles and two albums between 1979 and 1982, with which "M" could no longer build on its success with pop music . A remix of Pop Muzik reached the top 20 of the British charts again in 1989.

In 1997 U2 used pop music as an intro during their popmart tour .
