Bolle recently traveled to Whitsun and is one of the most famous folk songs from the Berlin area in the Berlin dialect .
According to the assessment of the musicologist Lukas Richter is this is a farce song on the prototype of Cavalier, "rüdigen" Berliner. The song reflects the holiday excursion of a typical Berliner to the then suburb of Pankow with the Schönholzer Heide . Thanks to the suburban and Kremser wagons , this had become a popular leisure activity for Berliners since the middle of the 19th century. The common nickname Bolle (onion) stands for an unspecified person.
There is neither a relationship with the Berlin wholesaler Carl Bolle nor with the Brandenburg hairdresser Fritze Bollmann .
Since the song is widespread, it has undergone numerous changes, including for demonstrations and political events. The number of stanzas in the song also varies, as in many popular songs, depending on the source.
