Life

Bollmann was the son of the line weaver Johann Friedrich David Bollmann from Salbke and his wife Marie Sophie, née Mesenberg, from Groß-Ottersleben . He learned the trade of hairdresser , which at that time was called a barber . Between 1875 and 1879 he worked in Berlin , Ziesar and Fehrbellin . After Fritz Bollmann had already worked as an assistant in a barber shop in Brandenburg an der Havel in 1875 , he returned to the city in 1879. From 1882 to 1896 he ran his own barber shop in the old town of Brandenburg , but also served customers in their apartments. He married around 1882, his bride brought into marriage an illegitimate child, and ten more children were born, but only three of them reached adulthood. Despite his quick and hard work, Bollmann got into an economic hardship that turned him into an alcoholic. The often drunk Bollmann was mocked and annoyed by children ("Fritze"). Bollmann didn't understand the fun of children, he chased the children and sprinkled them with shaving cream. Since nobody took him seriously, he became the mockery of Brandenburg. Several changes of residence did not stop the mockery. Bollmann died penniless at the Municipal Hospital in secretarial and syndicate house at the old town market of tongue cancer . His grave is in the old town cemetery in Brandenburg an der Havel.

The song by "Fritze Bollmann"

While fishing in the Domstreng , a tributary of the Brandenburg Niederhavel on the cathedral island of Brandenburg , Bollmann fell from the boat what he told his customers. Thereupon the children, who annoyed him anyway, wrote a mocking song about him. In 1885 a first version of the song, which had originally grown from two to four stanzas, appeared on a postcard. Although he obtained a ban on the distribution of the postcard, the mocking song was still sung after the melody Bei Sedan on the Heights ... More stanzas were then added by adults.

And in Brandenburg uff'n Beetzsee,
yes there is a fishing boat ,
and in it sits Fritze Bollmann
with all the fishing stuff.
And in it is Fritze Bollmann
with all the fishing stuff.

Fritze Bollmann wanted to fish
when the fishing rod fell,
Fritze Bollmann wanted to reach out,
and there he was lying in there himself.
Fritze Bollmann wanted to take it,
and he was in there himself.

Fritze Bollmann shouted for help,
dear people save me,
because I'm Fritze Bollmann,
from the old town the barber.
Because I'm Fritze Bollmann,
the barber from the old town.

Only the fishing rod was saved,
Fritze Bollmann, who drunk,
and since then Fritze Bollmann
has not been shouting at the Beetzsee anymore.
And since then Fritze Bollmann
has not been shouting at the Beetzsee anymore.

Fritze Bollmann came to heaven:
"Dear Petrus let me through,
because I'm Fritze Bollmann,
the barber from Brandenburg."
Because I am Fritze Bollmann,
the barber from Brandenburg. "

And Petrus let himself be moved
Fritze Bollmann, come on!
You can shake hands with me,
“Come here, and see me in.”
You can shake me up,
“Come here, and see me in.”

Fritze Bollmann, who was shouting,
Petrus shouted: “Oh, fright and Yes,
you want to massacre me , you can't take a
Deibel. "
You want to massacre me, you can't take a
Deibel."

"Uff ' you can go down the big ladder of
heaven,
and you go on down below,
let me' I have a full beard . "
And you go farther down,
I let me have a full beard."

(current variant)

This song was interpreted by Claire Waldoff and Frank Zander, among others .

After 1905/1906 text extensions and variants appeared, which were further disseminated by water sports enthusiasts, craftsmen, soldiers and later by song books and musicians. It is still sung on many occasions and new variations continue to emerge. It made Bollmann a well-known original who still appears as a popular folk figure at folk festivals.
