The Brandenburger Niederhavel (BHv) is a section of the Havel River in the German state of Brandenburg. The length of the waterway is about eight kilometers. It is a federal waterway of waterway class IV with restrictions and belongs to the Lower Havel waterway , for which the Brandenburg Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible. The Brandenburger Niederhavel lies completely in the urban area of the independent city of Brandenburg an der Havel .
history
The Brandenburger Niederhavel stretching from Beetzsee to Breitlingsee with its length of almost eight kilometers was until 1910 part of the main stretch of the Lower Havel waterway, the connection between the rivers Spree and Elbe . When the Silo Canal was opened to traffic on November 19, 1910, it became a waterway of minor importance for cargo shipping. Since the German reunification and the shutdown of several companies in the city of Brandenburg for reasons of economy and environmental protection, there is basically no more cargo shipping on the Brandenburg Niederhavel.
River course
The name Brandenburger Niederhavel begins with the southern part of the Beetzsee, the Kleiner Beetzsee . Flowing south, it passes a narrow point over which the Homeyenbrücke leads. Several tributaries flow into the Havel from the east, such as the Domstreng . Passing the cathedral island, the river reaches the Millennium Bridge and the Salzhofufer. There are jetties for pleasure craft and passenger ships on the banks of the Salzhof. Shortly before the mouth of the Brandenburg City Canal (BrK) on the left bank, the Luckenberger Bridge crosses the river. The city lock is located in the Brandenburg city canal. In their place, the already mentioned 1309 Mill congestion from 1335 a will to overcome flood Renne and Flutronne described. The first lock was built in the middle of the 16th century. Another road bridge and a railway bridge cross the Niederhavel at about 59.50 km. Left very naturally, the river meanders gently towards the Breitlingsee. The Neuendorf ferry , a cable ferry, crosses the Havel at km 63.50 . In the meantime, the Brandenburg Niederhavel has changed its direction of flow to the west in order to reach the lake-like widening of the Havel at the Plauer Gemünd lighthouse , which are called Breitlingsee, Quenzsee, Möserscher See and Plauer See .
Special
The kilometering is a specialty. It begins at kilometer 56.17 of the UHW branching off as kilometer 56.00 and ends in Plauer See at kilometer 63.37 of the UHW as kilometer 65.50. The way on the Brandenburg Niederhavel is about two kilometers longer than on the main waterway over the Silo Canal.
The bridges
Five bridges lead over the Brandenburg Niederhavel and over its tributaries in the city area such as the Brandenburger Stadthavel, Brandenburger Stadtkanal, Domstreng and the drains of the Mühlenstau seven bridges.
