René Klijn (born September 8, 1962 in The Hague ; † September 5, 1993 ) was a Dutch pop singer and model.

Klijn started his musical career in 1986 as a member of the boy group Bam To Bam Bam , with which he took part in the 1989 National Song Festival . He became known to the general public in the autumn of 1992 as a guest in the show De Schreeuw van de Leeuw by comedian Paul de Leeuw . In the broadcast on November 28, 1992, he spoke frankly - already sitting in a wheelchair - about his illness with the immunodeficiency syndrome AIDS . This edition was awarded a Bronze Rose at the Montreux Festival and a silver medal at the New York Festival .

At the end of De Leeuw's show, Klijn performed an interpretation of Mr. Blue , originally by the British pop band Yazoo . His cover version was released as a single in the spring of 1993 and reached number 1 on the charts in the Netherlands for five weeks . Klijn donated all of the proceeds from the sale of the single to the national AIDS fund. Five months after this success, Klijn succumbed to the effects of AIDS.
