Dreadlock Holiday is a 1978 song by British band 10cc . A rare foray into reggae for the band , it was written by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman .

Emergence

According to the authors, the text about a traveler who is harassed by a group of locals in search of valuables in Jamaica is based on a similar experience that Moody Blues singers Justin Hayward and Eric Stewart had in Barbados the year before .

The song was the first single from the album Bloody Tourists .

Chart successes

The song became 10cc's third and final number one hit in the UK on September 22, 1978 . The single reached number 44 in the US charts , number eleven in Germany , number 18 in Austria and number five in Switzerland .
