10cc is a British rock band that had their greatest success in the 1970s .

Band history

Eric Stewart March 28, 1976 in Oslo

The band comes from Manchester in the north of England. Eric Stewart (guitar and vocals) was a member of the beat band The Mindbenders in the late 1960s . The well-known songwriter (e.g. for the Yardbirds , Hollies or Herman's Hermits ) and musician Graham Gouldman (bass), previously with the Mockingbirds, later also joined the Mindbenders. In 1971 they both appeared together with Lol Creme (guitar and keyboards) and Kevin Godley (drums, formerly Mockingbirds) for the first time as a studio band for the production of the album Space Hymns by the psychedelic musician Ramases . In 1970 they had a number 2 hit in England (still without Graham Gouldman) under the name Hotlegs with Neanderthal Man . From 1972 the formation appeared under the name 10cc .

Kevin Godley, 1976

According to a legend, the band name is said to be derived from the alleged average volume of sperm of a man during an orgasm (9cc). Some of those involved, including their first producer Jonathan King, later denied this. 10cc stands for 10 cubic centimeters.

Lol Creme (1976)

Godley and Creme left the band in 1976 to start a successful career under the name Godley & Creme . For them came Paul Burgess and Stuart Tosh (drums), Duncan Mackay (vocals and keyboards) and Rick Fenn (vocals and guitar).

Graham Gouldman 2006

10cc is characterized by a rich stylistic diversity in all phases of its existence. The band's most creative phase lasted until the early 80s, and they released some world hits that are now part of the common oldie repertoire, e.g. B. Rubber Bullets (1973), I'm Not in Love (1975) and Dreadlock Holiday (1978).

10cc singer Gouldman sang the big hit Dreadlock Holiday again in 2004 and had it re-produced by a Munich production team that works under the pseudonym "Refresh Crew". The club hit made it to number 1 on the airplay charts in Indonesia and stayed there for over five weeks. In Germany, the new version only came to record stores on vinyl.
