The Hotlegs were a short-lived studio band from Great Britain who created a million-seller with their song "Neanderthal Man" and became world famous.

Career

Allegedly the song was only recorded to test the equipment in the "Strawberry Studio" newly acquired by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman . All the musicians had previously played in other formations and became known and famous as 10cc after the "Hotleg Test" was over .

"Neanderthal Man" was penned by Stewart, Lol Creme and Kevin Godley , who created it when they jumbled on the instruments in the new studio. It is said that the refrain "I'm a Neanderthal Man - you're a Neanderthal girl - let's make Neanderthal love - in this Neanderthal world" came about by chance . A Philips Records employee overheard it and offered £ 500 as an advance to get it out on a record. The song was sold over two million times worldwide.

The title of the song referred to the Neanderthal , a prehistoric man from the Pleistocene , whose fossil remains were found in 1856 in the Neandertal in the area of the city of Erkrath in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The Hotlegs then released two more singles and an LP entitled "Thinks: School Stinks" , but had no further success.
