I would really like to hear Dave Dudley is a song by the German country band Truck Stop . It was her first big hit, reaching number 20 in the German single charts and staying in the charts for 16 weeks.

background

After turning to German-language songs, the band released the album Heimat in 1977 on the Metronome sub-label Nature. The songs were produced by Joe Menke and Volker Heintzen . The first single on the album was The Woman with the Belt , but many radio stations played mainly I would really like to hear Dave Dudley . Therefore, the song was released as the second single from the album.

The single rose to number 41 in the German charts on May 8, 1978. It reached 20th place for the first time on May 22nd and then again on July 3rd. In total, the single stayed in the charts for 16 weeks. It was her first big hit. Although the song was placed in the ZDF hit parade from May to September 1978 for almost six months (top position fifth), it did not appear on the show. However, she appeared with him on September 4, 1994 in the special program Die Superhitparade from the ZDF TV Garden 1974-1978 .

Music and lyrics

The song was composed by Rainer Bach , the text is by Holger Grabowsky. The song is about a truck driver who is on a night drive through Germany in winter who is outside the broadcast range of the AFN soldier channels and therefore has to fall back on the NDR program . He would rather hear the eponymous Dave Dudley or Hank Snow and Charley Pride . Dave Dudley as the title holder was no coincidence, as he was one of the first artists to play so-called "truck-driving country music", i.e. music that dealt with the subject of trucks.

Other versions

Live versions of the album can be found on their first live album In Concert (1985) and on the album 25 Years Truck Stop on Tour (1998). In 1993 it was part of a hit medley that was released as the B-side of Men with a Hat as well as on the album 1000 Miles of Dust . Otherwise it was part of numerous compilations by the band.

On the anniversary album 30 Years Truck Stop , the band interpreted the song together with Tom Astor . Wolfgang Petry covered the song on his cover album My Favorite Songs . In addition, the German fun metal band JBO recorded a satirical cover version entitled I would like to hear metal so much for their album Sex Sex Sex , which was released in 2000.
