history

Internal Affairs and Skyline Whispers (2007 to 2016)

Singer Björn Strid 2018

In 2007 the band Soilwork was on tour through North America . During the trip to the next concert, singer Björn Strid and David Andersson, who was a live guitarist, talked about classic rock and adult oriented rock of the 1980s . The band The Night Flight Orchestra was born from this idea. The band was completed by the guitarist Sebastian Forslund, the bassist Sharlee D'Angelo (among others Arch Enemy , Spiritual Beggars ), the keyboardist Richard Larsson and the drummer Jonas Källsbäck from the band Mean Streak .

The debut album Internal Affairs was released on June 18, 2012 via the Italian record label Coroner Records . Since singer Strid with Soilwork and bassist D'Angelo with their main bands were busy on schedule, The Night Flight Orchestra could only play their first concert on August 1st, 2013 in Lidköping . A year later the band played at the Sweden Rock Festival and took Sebastian Forslund as the second guitarist in the band. The Night Flight Orchestra then recorded their second studio album, Skyline Whispers , which was released on June 9, 2015 via Coroner Records. A year later, the band was signed by Nuclear Blast , with Björn Strid's main band Soilwork already under contract.

Amber Galactic and Sometimes the World Ain't Enough (2016 to 2019)

Bass player Sharlee D 'Angelo 2018

The third studio album, Amber Galactic , was released on May 19, 2017 and reached number 43 in the German album, number 54 in the Swiss and number 64 in the Austrian album charts. Numerous magazines voted it album of the month, including German and French Rock Hard and the German online magazine Powermetal.de . In the summer of 2017, The Night Flight Orchestra played their first concert outside their home country at the Rock Hard Festival before the band set off on their first European tour in the fall. Amber Galactic was nominated for the Swedish Grammis Music Award in the Hard Rock / Metal category, but the award went to Europe for her album Walk the Earth . On June 8, 2018, the band played a concert at Copenhagen Airport , where The Night Flight Orchestra, in collaboration with the Mikkeler Brewery, presented their cocktail Midnight Flyer . Originally the band was supposed to perform during a flight of the company SAS , which was prevented by safety regulations.

Guitarists David Andersson and Sebastian Forslund 2018

Sometimes the World Ain't Enough was released on June 29, 2018 and was voted album of the month by German magazine Rock Hard. To mark the release of the album, the band played an exclusive concert at the ABBA Museum in Stockholm . The album reached number 16 in the German, number 23 in the Swiss and number 34 in the Swedish album charts. For the summer and autumn of 2018 appearances at the Summer Breeze Festival , the Reload Festival and the Metal Hammer Paradise as well as a European tour with the supporting act Black Mirrors are announced. The Night Flight Orchestra was nominated in the Up and Coming category at the Metal Hammer Awards 2018 . However, the award went to the band Cypecore .

On November 23, 2018, the first two studio albums Internal Affairs and Skyline Whispers were re-released by Nuclear Blast with new artwork and bonus material. Sometimes the World Ain't Enough was nominated for the Swedish Grammis music award in the hard rock / metal category, but the award went to the band Tribulation . In the summer of 2019, The Night Flight Orchestra played at festivals such as Rockharz , Bang Your Head or Wacken Open Air .

Aeromantic (since 2020)

On February 28, 2020, the band released their fifth studio album Aeromantic . The album was recorded in the Nordic Sound Lab recording studio. Jonas Källsbäck used the drums that were used on the ABBA album Super Trouper . During the recording the keyboardist Richard Larsson left the band. On the following tours he is replaced by John Lönnmyr. Aeromantic was voted album of the month by German magazine Rock Hard together with The God-Shaped Void by Psychotic Waltz . It entered the German album charts at number 13. At the same time as the album, the band released a Riesling and a rum , which are limited to 160 and 600 bottles respectively.

The music of The Night Flight Orchestra is mostly referred to as Classic Rock or AOR , more rarely as Hard Rock . With the album Sometimes the World Ain't Enough , the band added elements of disco music . According to Matthias Weckmann from the German magazine Metal Hammer “the band delivers everything that one loves and loved about bands like Journey , Foreigner and Survivor ”. Björn Backes from the online magazine Powermetal.de compared the second studio album Skyline Whispers with British progressive rock of the 1970s and named Yes , Genesis , Kiss , Deep Purple and Rainbow as musical references.

For Frank Thießies from the German magazine Metal Hammer, the Amber Galactic album features "AOR with classic rock between a hail of disco bullets and hook swingers". Boris Kaiser from the German magazine Rock Hard compared The Night Flight Orchestra in his review for Sometimes the World Ain't Enough with bands like Toto , Kiss, Ghost , REO Speedwagon , Boston or Supertramp .
