The Hunt is the sixth studio album by the Swedish band Grand Magus . The album was released in May 2012 via Nuclear Blast and Warner Music .

The album has been compared to early Judas Priest releases , citing slight Doom Metal influences . The Hunt tends more towards heavy rock than its predecessors. The record was given 1970s influences by Nico Elgstrand (among others Entombed ).

reception

The Metal Hammer voted the album "Record of the Month". Matthias Weckmann wrote that the album "now represents the definitive challenge to the competition for the traditional legacy: very big metal cinema with lots of pathos, but without patina." He gave 6 out of 7 points. Götz Kühnemund wrote in Rock Hard magazine : “There will be people for whom“ The Hunt ”doesn't sound brutal and original enough - but this target group has not been the right address at GRAND MAGUS for years anyway. More old-fashioned trad metal fans will take the band (even) more seriously after this record. ”He awarded eight out of ten points. Peter Ehmann from undergrounded.de rates the album with 8 out of 10 points, giving the conclusion: "Grand Magus show how you can celebrate epic metal without having to reach knee-deep into the embarrassing cliché box."
