Koach la'Ovdim ("Strength to the Workers", Hebrew כוח לעובדים) is an Israeli trade union federation , which was founded on May 1, 2007 and offers various workers' associations a common platform and also help with the organization. In July 2012 around 12,000 workers were represented by Koach la'Ovdim.

organization

Koach la'Owdim is a democratically organized trade union federation. Its most important decisions are:

  • Start of a strike
  • Ending a strike
  • Conclusion of an agreement

Other important decisions are made exclusively by the entire represented workforce.

One representative is delegated to the representative assembly for every 50 employees. The representative assembly elects the “organizing committee” (the “executive”), to which 10 members of the representative assembly belong.

history

  • After a 50-day strike by lecturers at the Open University, the two sides signed a first-time collective agreement for this university in April 2009.
  • After a six-month strike at the Haifa Chemicals chemical plant , the two sides signed a collective agreement that significantly improves conditions for workers.
  • After the representatives of the railway workers were removed from the Histadrut , more than 1,200 railway workers changed their membership from the Histadrut to Koach la'Owdim at the beginning of July 2012. Koach la'Owdim then applied to represent the railroad workers in collective bargaining in place of the Histadrut, but this was rejected by the national labor court on July 15.
