The Kesselhaus in the Kulturbrauerei is a multifunctional venue for all arts, with a focus on music. It is located in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg on the grounds of the Kulturbrauerei . Directly next to the boiler house is the machine house , which is also used as an event location.

history

In 1842 the Berlin pharmacist Heinrich Prell founded a small brewery with a pub. In 1853, after his death, Jobst Schultheiss bought the brewery and pub and gave the beer its later famous name. Due to the urban planning of today's Knaackstrasse, the area used grew in 1867 from originally 5,000 to around 30,000 square meters . In 1920, the fusion of the Schultheiss brewery and the Patzenhofer brewery resulted in the world's largest lager brewery. In 1967 the brewery was closed. In 1978 the former brewery complex was placed under monument protection due to its unique architecture. In 1990, the Treuhand took over the site, which was threatened with decay, and signed a rental agreement with Kulturbrauerei gGmbH as the main tenant. It approved 100 million Deutschmarks for the development of the area as a center for trade, services and culture. From 1998 to 2001 the entire site was extensively renovated.

Since then, the upper floor has served as a venue for smaller events with up to 250 guests. The main focus theater and concert events take place, such as the weekly show of improvisational theater "Paternoster" performances of the theater group "stem cell formation" or "razzz" the first beatbox musical in the world.
