Jobst Schultheiss
Jobst Schultheiss (born August 1, 1802 in Erlangen , † March 21, 1865 in Berlin ) was a Berlin beer host . The Schultheiss beer brand is named after him.
Life
Schultheiss was a businessman and a hat and umbrella manufacturer based at Brüderstraße 35 in Berlin.
In 1853 he took over the leadership in 1842 by the pharmacist August Heinrich Prell founded († 1863) Brewery bounce in the new Jakobstraße 26. The produced there in the closet "Bavarian beer lager brewing method" was offered in a serving locally, which after the acquisition of Name was given to the Schultheiss-Bräu . Despite 35 other breweries in the Berlin area, sales were so good that new cold storage and storage cellars were acquired at Schönhauser Allee 39 on the site of today's Kulturbrauerei , which had been set up by the farmer and master brewer JE Wagner in 1843/44. For the brewery, Schultheiss won over the master brewer Johann Mathias Beck , who had previously worked in the Vilain'schen brewery in Hasenheide 32/38.
After the pharmacist's death in 1863, Schultheiss took over the company completely and gave it the name that is still known today. Despite the limited experience in brewing that Schultheiss had, his company developed into the most important Berlin brewery. The company was already producing 1/7 of all beer production in Berlin in 1860. In 1862, Schultheiss acquired the two neighboring houses of the "Prellschen Stammhaus" (house numbers 24 and 25) in Neue Jakobstrasse and set up a garden restaurant there. A bar was also opened at the location of the storage cellars at Schönhauser Allee 39 and continuously expanded.
In May 1864, after a serious illness, Schultheiss sold his brewery to Adolf Roesicke for 210,000 thalers .
