The Patzenhofer brewery is listed office and business premises in the Taubenstraße 10 in Berlin district center .

History and function of the building

The building was designed in 1905 by Hermann Dernburg for the Aktien-Brauerei-Gesellschaft Friedrichshöhe, formerly Patzenhofer . With its five storeys, it fits into the eaves height typical of this area of Friedrichstadt . The baroque sandstone facade with four indicated pilasters is decorated with relief depictions made of hop garlands by Hermann Engelhardt. The two lower floors are optically by a Rustika connected together and to the overlying floors with a belt cornice completed while the central axis by two korinthische capitals distinguished.

After the brewery merged with the Schultheiss brewery in 1920, the building was taken over by Allianz Versicherung and rebuilt after the Second World War . During the GDR era, the German publishing house of the sciences , a specialist book publisher , the data center for foreign trade in the GDR and the foreign trade operation of the VEB heavy mechanical engineering combine "Ernst Thälmann" were located here . In 1994 and 1995, a renovation was carried out in accordance with the preservation standards; a year later, the KfW advisory center moved into the building. After she left the house in 2007, it has been used regularly as a conference venue for the Conference of Ministers of Education since 2009 .
