Ross The Boss (2015)

Ross Friedman (born January 3, 1954 in the Bronx , New York City ) is an American guitarist who was best known as Ross the Boss during his former membership in the metal band Manowar . In 1989 he was replaced in his role as guitarist for the band by David Shankle . He now lives in Queens .

Musical career

The Dictators and Manowar

In 1973, Friedman joined the punk band The Dictators as a guitarist in New York City . After recording three albums with this band under the name Ross Funicello , he moved to France and worked for the band Shakin 'Street for a year. During Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell tour (1980), which opened with Shakin 'Street, Friedman met bassist Joey DeMaio , who was then employed as a pyrotechnician for Black Sabbath.

In the same year Friedman and DeMaio founded the metal band Manowar, with which he recorded six albums. In 1988, after the completion of the album Kings of Metal , he left the band and since then has devoted himself to music that is located in the blues area. Among other things, he played in the band Manitoba's Wild Kingdom, which were meanwhile under contract with MCA, but lost the deal again in late 1990. It was not until the summer of 2005 that he appeared again with all other current and former Manowar members as part of the Earthshaker Festival . Friedman has been playing with Brain Surgeons , a project by the former Blue Öyster Cult drummer Albert Bouchard, for several years .

The band Ross the Boss

In April 2006 Friedman appeared together with the German Manowar cover band Men of War at the Keep-It-True Festival to play songs from the first six Manowar albums. In June 2006 Friedman announced on his website that he had named Men of War as his official band. From now on Ross the Boss is not only Friedman's stage name, but also that of a band. So now not only old Manowar classics should be played, but also new songs should be written (a song called We Will Kill was presented at the Rock Hard Festival 2007.) The musicians come from the region around the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Kaiserslautern and are members of the band Ivory Night (Patrick Fuchs, vocals, and Carsten Kettering, bass), drummer Matthias Mayer was still playing with Divinus at the time.

In addition to working on the first demo of Ross the Boss, Friedman contributed guest solos to the CD Epos by the Italian heavy metal band Wotan and the MCD The Pnakotic Demos by the German epic metal band Atlantean Kodex in 2007 .

In late 2007 the band signed with AFM Records and released their first album on August 22, 2008, entitled New Metal Leader . The album contains 11 songs and is reminiscent of the older works by Manowar, which Ross the Boss strongly influenced with his guitar work.

In November 2008, Ross the Boss went on tour with Sinner through Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland to promote the album New Metal Leader live.

In 2010, the band's second album, Ross the Boss, was released, called Hailstorm .

Death dealer

In 2012 the supergroup Deathdealer was founded. In addition to Friedman, Kenny Earl "Rhino" Edwards (ex-Manowar, Holy Hell , Angels of Babylon ) on drums is another former Manowar member in the band. The other musicians are singer Sean Peck ( Cage , Empires of Eden ), guitarist Stu Marshall (Empires of Eden, ex- Dungeon , Paindivision ) and bassist Mike Davis ( Halford , ex- Lizzy Borden ).

Her album War Master was released in June 2013.In November 2013, Rhino announced his exit. He will be replaced by former Into Eternity drummer Steve Bolognese.

An album originally targeted for 2014 was released in 2015 and was named Hallowed Ground .
