Into Glory Ride is the second studio album by the American true metal band Manowar .

Emergence

Although the debut album Battle Hymns was received quite well in Europe, it was not successful in their home country USA. As a consequence, Manowar lost their record deal with Liberty Records ( EMI ). With Scott Columbus a new drummer was found who was a permanent member of the band until 1990 and from 1996 to 2008. With a demo cassette , the band applied to several record companies, including the independent label Music for Nations . The band members signed the record deal for the second album with their own blood. The company then released the demo cassette under the title Into Glory Ride almost unedited, which explains the weak sound.

Music genre

In contrast to the predecessor, the songs are now much more epic, secular themes are missing in all lyrics, except for the opener. The songs mainly serve fantasy clichés and are about warriors and battles. The cover artwork is adapted to this textual orientation and shows a photo of the band disguised as a fantasy warrior with cutting and stabbing weapons .

publication

For years this was the band's "lost" album. In 1983 vinyl editions appeared in some countries , but no CD edition followed. As the bootleg scene began to grow, two different editions became relatively prominent. On the one hand, a version that also contained the subsequent album Hail to England (with reversible cover) and, on the other hand, a version that contained some live recordings (the live intro, Manowar , Fighting the World , Kings of Metal and Sign of the hammer ). This second version also contains the original version of Defender , for which Orson Welles has spoken a part.

There is a music video for the song Gloves of Metal , which later appeared on the Hell on Earth III DVD along with a version that was expanded to include some special effects .

In 1993 a box titled Secrets of Steel was released , which, in addition to a 15-minute VHS video, also contained the albums Into Glory Ride and Hail to England on CD for the first time. In 2001 Into Glory Ride was re-mastered as a Silver Edition by Metal Blade Records under license from Ragnar Productions .
