reception

Even if the debut album enjoys a high cult status among the band's fans , Battle Hymns is the most untypical Manowar album to date. Compared to later albums, songs like Death Tone , Fast Taker or the band anthem Manowar are melodically strongly influenced by rock . In addition, some of the texts deal with current, secular topics such as unemployment, rebellion against the parents or the Vietnam War . On the other hand, the tracks Dark Avenger and Battle Hymn already show a lot of what was to become their stylistic feature on the band's later albums: songs with a hymn character and a relatively long playing time, which lyrically deal with the fight in an archaic, mythological world.

In 2001, Battle Hymns was re-mastered and re-released as a Silver Edition , a re-recording of the debut appeared in 2010, but was titled Battle Hymns MMXI .

Reinhold Reither von Stormbringer described Battle Hymns and the three following Manowar albums as those that were "made to last". Such would have "their very own, their very special charm, which one will never again be able to reproduce so authentically, so uniquely". Songs like Metal Daze , Shell Shock and Manowar are considered classics.

Trivia

  • The Frankfurt thrash metal band Tankard covered the song Fast Taker on their album Disco Destroyer .
  • There are still a handful of MCs with the band name The Manowar. This was then changed to Manowar. The MC should never actually come onto the market in this form.

Individual evidence
