history

The band was formed in 2009 by singer and bassist Jon Harvey, guitarist Jeremy Widerman, keyboardist Brandon Bliss and drummer Steve Kiely. At the time, the musicians played in various bands that played punk , pop-rock or metal . Since all the band members had a thing for rock 'n' roll , they formed a band just for fun. The name Monster Truck comes from the Chevrolet Astro that Steve Kiely drove at the time. This van was nicknamed Monster Truck, which the musicians soon adopted for their band. The band played their first concerts and released an EP on their own in 2010 . A year later, on Dine Alone Records the second EP The Brown before 2012, a split - single with the band DZ Deathrays followed.

In 2013 the band recorded their debut album Furiosity together with producer Eric Ratz (including Billy Talent , Cancer Bats ) . The album reached number 13 on the Canadian album charts, the single Sweet Mountain River was at number 84 on the Canadian single charts. Monster Truck played numerous concerts as opening act for Slash , Deep Purple and Rival Sons and was at the Juno Awards, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards in the category of Breakthrough Group of the Year award. Also in 2013 the band played their first concerts in Europe. She performed at the Download Festival and did a tour supporting Vista Chino .

A year later, an extensive tour through North America followed , supporting Alice in Chains, as well as other concerts with Guns N 'Roses , ZZ Top and Kid Rock . The musicians then began recording their second studio album. The album Sittin 'Heavy , again produced by Eric Ratz, was released on February 19, 2016 and reached number six on the Canadian album charts. The album was also placed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. At the beginning of 2016, Monster Truck was supporting Volbeat in North America . In Europe, the band opened for Nickelback in October 2016 , and as the opening act for Billy Talent in November and December 2016 .
