Legend of the Seagullmen ( . English : Legend of seagulls Men ) is an American rock - band , which among other musicians from the bands Mastodon and Tool there and occasionally as a supergroup is called.
history
The concept pursued by the band goes back to the brothers Frank, Chris and David "Doctor" Dreyer. The concept tells a 400,000 year old story with pirates , sailors , a rock band and mythical sea creatures. The Dreyer brothers have been performing the concept in theaters for several years . In the late 2000s, Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds , who is friends with David Dreyer, joined them. The band first appeared in February 2015 when the online magazine Metalsucks reported on a joint project between Brent Hinds and tool drummer Danny Carey . Other members were the guitarist Dimitri Coats ( Off ! , Burning Brides ) and the director Jimmy Hayward. The musicians made the songs The Deep-sea Diver and Ships Wreck available as a stream and free download.
The cast was announced in October 2017. David "Doctor" Dreyer became the singer. Guitarist Jimmy Hayward, bassist Pete Griffin ( Giraffe Tongue Orchestra , Zappa Plays Zappa ) and Chris Digiovanni joined the synthesizers . Dimitri Coats was no longer part of the band for unknown reasons. On December 31, 2017, the band played their first concert in Oakland as opening act for Primus . Since Brent Hinds was unable to attend for family reasons, Primus guitarist Larry La Londe stepped in . On February 9, 2018, the band released their debut album of the same name via Dine Alone Records . Legend of the Seagullmen was nominated for Best Debut Album at the Metal Hammer Awards 2018 . However, the award went to the band Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons .
