life and career

David Draiman grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family and should become a teacher or doctor at the will of his relatives . As a teenager, Draiman attended five different Jewish high schools , including Milwaukee and Los Angeles , before graduating from the Ida Crown Jewish Academy in Chicago . After graduating from high school, he studied law at Loyola University in Chicago and worked as a health care administrator.

Before joining the band Disturbed, Draiman was a member of seven different bands, but they played punk rock or were influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Faith No More . One day Draiman read an advertisement from the band Brawl who were looking for a new singer. During a rehearsal, Draiman surprised the musicians by not wanting to sing a cover version , but his own songs. Draiman was accepted into the band, which a short time later renamed itself to Disturbed at Draiman's suggestion.

With Disturbed, Draiman released seven studio albums and sold more than 15 million albums worldwide. In the summer of 2011 the band announced that they were taking an indefinite break. A year later, Draiman and former Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo founded the industrial rock band Device, which released their debut album on April 5, 2013. On August 14th, 2015 Disturbed started their comeback with their sixth album Immortalized .

David Draiman has been married to actress and former wrestler Lena Yada since September 25, 2011 . On September 12, 2013, their first son, Samuel Bear Isamu Draiman, was born. For many years, a piercing between the mouth and chin was the trademark of David Draiman. In 2018 he had this piercing removed because he thought it was time. Also, "it would feel weird to run around like a hot topic teenager at 45." Draiman refers to a US retail chain that specializes in youth culture, but hardly distances itself from the mainstream.

The US magazine Hit Parader listed Draiman in November 2006 at number 42 on the list of the 100 best metal singers of all time. Draiman was a guest singer on Megadeth's album Super Collider in 2013 on the song Dance in the Rain , and produced the album Vengeance Falls for the band Trivium . At the Metal Hammer Awards 2018, Draiman was awarded together with Judas Priest in the Maximum Metal category.
