The Lost Children is a compilation album by the US metal band Disturbed . The album was released on November 8, 2011 via Reprise Records .

Emergence

In July 2011 the band announced that they would be taking an indefinite break for personal reasons. A month later announced singer David Draiman on Twitter the release of a compilation of the next B-sides and bonus tracks of various studio albums and two cover versions contain. The song Mine was the only song completely unreleased at the time The Lost Children was released. In contrast, the song 3 should not appear on the album. The band had previously posted the song on their website to raise funds for the West Memphis Three . After the three men were acquitted, the band decided to use the song on the album.

The album title came from the band, who refer to their songs as "their children" and find it difficult for the musicians to pick their favorites. The mastering was done by Ted Jensen. The album cover was illustrated by Raymond Swanland.

Reviews

Reviewer Reini from the online magazine Stormbringer said the album “doesn't sound like scrap at all”. Where "other bands have to make significant quality cuts in bonus material", Disturbed prove that they "also know how to convince with songs that - for whatever reason - could not be heard on their regular albums". According to Sascha Dörr from the online magazine Metalnews , the songs “simply offer no added value to the material from the last five studio albums” and rated the album with 4.5 out of seven points. For Matthias Weckmann from the German magazine Metal Hammer , the hitherto unpublished song Mine stands out, the rest would “complete the band's discography more quantitatively than qualitatively”. The two cover versions would be the “weak point” of the album, that “only confessing completeers need to be on the shelf”. Weckmann awarded four out of seven points.

Chart placements

The album reached number 13 on the US album charts and sold around 43,000 times in the United States in the first week after its release . The album reached number 29 in Germany, number 35 in Austria and number 59 in Switzerland. In addition, The Lost Children ranked number 17 in Canada and number 85 in the United Kingdom.
