Vinnie Paul Abbott (2008)

Vincent "Vinnie" Paul Abbott (born March 11, 1964 in Dallas , Texas , † June 22, 2018 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American drummer . He was best known as a founding member of the former glam metal and later (from 1990) neo- thrash metal band Pantera .

biography

Abbott was known for his sophisticated double bass playing . He played complicated double bass figures ( triplets etc.) in slow and fast tempos . Examples of this can be found in the title Becoming from the album Far Beyond Driven from 1994. He also incorporated elements of swing and progressive rock into his style.

After Pantera broke up, he and his brother Dimebag Darrell founded the band Damageplan . However, on December 8, 2004, Darrell was shot dead on stage by a gunman named Nathan Gale; the band was disbanded. The Rebel Meets Rebel project , on which the two had been working with David Allan Coe for a long time , was also abandoned, with Abbott releasing an album of the same name in May 2006 with the resulting musical material.

Abbott started a new project in 2006, Hellyeah . The debut album of the same name was released in early 2007.

Vinnie Paul Abbott died in his sleep on June 22, 2018 of a serious heart attack caused by dilated cardiomyopathy and was buried eight days later.
