Cowboys from Hell is the fifth music album by the US thrash metal band Pantera . It was released on July 24, 1990 via Atlantic Records . The album was produced by Terry Date .

Even though it's the band's fifth album, Cowboys From Hell is considered by many fans to be the band's “official” debut. On the four previous albums, the band played Glam Metal without achieving any notable success.

Cowboys From Hell was Pantera’s first commercially successful album. The album reached number 23 on the "Billboard Heatseekers Charts". With this album Pantera brought a breath of fresh air into the Thrash Metal scene and Pantera became the pioneers of the so-called "Neo-Thrash". The guitar solo of the song Cemetery Gates was voted 35th of the 100 best guitar solos of all time by readers of "Guitar World" magazine.

The "Guitar World" magazine selected Cowboys From Hell at number 11 of the 100 best guitar albums of all time. The title song is used for the PlayStation 2 game "Guitar Hero". In addition, the track "Cemetery Gates" is used for the guitar educational game "Rocksmith 2014".
