Rex Brown
Rex Brown (* 27. July 1964 in Graham, Texas ) is an American metal - bassist , the bass player of the group Pantera was known, but also worked for several other bands and artists, including Down , Crowbar , Rebel Meets Rebel , Jerry Cantrell and Kill Devil Hill .
Career
Brown joined Pantera in 1982 and played there with high school classmate Vinnie Paul . In the early days when the band played glam metal and power metal , he also called himself "Rexx Rocker". On Cowboys from Hell he called himself simply "Rex". It wasn't until 1996, starting with The Great Southern Trendkill , that he used his real name. Brown had great success with Pantera - the band was nominated four times for a Grammy Award .
In 1998, Brown played on Jerry Cantrell's solo debut, Boggy Depot . In 1999, Brown and Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul teamed up with country artist David Allan Coe to form Rebel Meets Rebel and released an album.
After Pantera paused since 2001 because of Phil Anselmo's back problems, among other things , Brown followed Anselmo to Down and replaced Todd Strange there . In 2002 he also played Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow . After a temporary break, Down III followed in 2006 : Over the Under . The band's fourth album is in the works, but Brown was replaced by Crowbar's Pat Bruders in June 2011 , as Down drummer Jimmy Bower said in an interview. Since 2009, Brown's health problems have been reported, he suffered from pancreatitis , had to undergo an operation and could not play the Down tour.
In March 2011 it was announced that Brown had founded the band Kill Devil Hill with Vinny Appice ( Heaven & Hell , Black Sabbath , Dio ) on drums, Mark Zavon ( RATT , WASP , 40 Cycle Hum ) on guitar and Dewey Bragg on vocals has already recorded ten demo tracks. According to Appice, the band is a mixture of Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains and a little Led Zeppelin .
Style and equipment
Brown formed the rhythm section of Pantera with drummer Vinnie Paul, so he had some influence on the development of groove metal . He mostly plays with a pick . Because Pantera usually does not include an additional rhythm guitar under Dimebag Darrell's solos, his bass playing comes into its own. As a former tuba player , Brown was also offered a scholarship to the University of North Texas , which he declined. He has an endorsement contract for Spector bass guitars and for Ampeg amplifiers.
