Gregor "Greg" Mackintosh (born June 20, 1970 as Gregory John Mackintosh ) is an English metal and rock guitarist, singer and songwriter . He became known for his many years as a songwriter and guitarist for the band Paradise Lost . From 2010 to 2018 he was singer, guitarist and songwriter for Vallenfyre . He has been the singer, guitarist and songwriter for Strigoi since 2018 .

Career

Mackintosh came into contact with extreme music through his older brother in 1981, including hardcore bands like Discharge , English Dogs and Conflict . He also began to get to know Motörhead and Black Sabbath . From 1984 he was also interested in bands like Hellhammer , Amebix and Antisect , which fused metal and hardcore elements. He dedicated himself to tape trading and got to know the music of Autopsy , Napalm Death , Morbid Angel , Repulsion and the Entombed predecessors Nihilist . Mackintosh founded Paradise Lost with Matthew Archer and Nick Holmes at the end of 1987, where he initially also processed Doom influences from Trouble , Saint Vitus and Candlemass . Mackintosh was the main songwriter on all of the band's albums, with Nick Holmes writing the lyrics.

In the course of time the music from Paradise Lost changed in the direction of Dark Rock . Mackintosh devoted himself to the songwriting, which at that time mainly took place on the keyboard , the programming of synthesizers . The band members distanced themselves from their metal influences at times. Nick Holmes said of Mackintosh that Mackintosh “never had anything to do with metal”. "Since I've known him, he's been listening to punk and gothic ."

On the Paradise Lost albums from the mid to late 2000s, however, the band found their way back to their characteristic style of the early years. In 2008 Mackintosh said:

“I always listened to metal. Sometimes I find metal inspiring, sometimes just boring. I am currently in an inspiring phase again. There are already a lot of bands that I like. I don't have an iPod because I can't handle it (laughs). If I had one, I would probably hear a lot more other music. But I also like old church recordings, which many would certainly find very boring ... just murmuring monk chants. Also a lot of classical music. Simply across the board, I don't set myself any limits. Mostly it's "wretched" or "bad" music, old Bathory for example. "
