Believe in Nothing is the eighth studio album by the English band Paradise Lost . It was released in February 2001.

Origin and style

Believe in Nothing was recorded at The Strongroom in London with John Fryer ( Depeche Mode , HIM ). In contrast to its predecessor, the focus was increasingly on guitar sounds and more natural sounding drums, without, however, stylistically building on the metal of the first albums.

reception

Although the band later expressed their skepticism about the album, it received quite good reviews at the time of its release. Allmusic's David Peter Wesolowski wrote that the album did not achieve the same quality as some of the band's previous releases. Nevertheless, it is a high quality publication. It awarded three out of five stars. Metal.de wrote: “And to be honest, what was it about albums like Gothic or Shades of God that fascinated us so much? Exactly, the melodies and the goosebumps mood, but definitely not the heaviness of the songs! Now the hardness is completely gone, but the other has increased by at least 100%. In my opinion, more than enough compensation! ”The site awarded nine out of ten points. In Rock Hard , Breda Maßmann wrote that Paradise Lost had “created a great thing with some potential hits with the new long groove. Undoubtedly a case for the repeat button! ”The rating was eight out of ten points.
