Symbol of Life is the ninth studio album by the English band Paradise Lost . It was released in October 2002.

Origin and style

For Symbol of Life the band was able to secure the services of Rhys Fulber (including Fear Factory ) after the less powerful album Believe in Nothing . The album was recorded from June to July 2002 at Chapel Studios, Lincolnshire and Dreamcatcher Recording Studios, Bradford . Here sang Lee Dorrian the title Erased with Joanna Stevens Erased , Primal , and Mystify and Devin Townsend in Two Worlds and the cover Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat , in addition Xavier of Dead Can Dance found its way to the Limited Edition. Stylistically, the band again used some heavy metal riffs, but the electronic elements of the three previous albums are still used to a large extent.

reception

Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic gave Symbol of Life three out of five stars. Rivadavia described the cover as an “insult” to the band's metal fan base, although the album highlights were “mostly satisfactory”. In Rock Hard , Uwe “Buffo” Schnädelbach wrote: “With Symbol of Life , paradise, which was believed to be lost in the meantime, has come a whole lot closer.” The rating was eight out of ten points.
