Triptykon is a black metal / doom metal band around the guitarist and singer Thomas Gabriel Fischer . The group is considered the successor to the band Celtic Frost, which dissolved in 2008 .

Band history

In the spring of 2008, Thomas Gabriel Fischer, initially intended as a side project next to his band Celtic Frost at the time, started the then unnamed project together with bassist Vanja Slajh. First conversations with various death, doom and black metal guitarists followed to join as musicians. When Celtic Frost dissolved in April 2008, the project acquired a new value and Fischer named it Triptykon in homage to the multi-part triptychs .

It came Dark Fortress guitarist V.Santura added to the band, who had previously played together at Celtic Frost as a live guitarist with Fischer. When ex-Celtic Frost drummer Reed St. Mark joined the band during the rehearsal sessions at the end of 2008, the line-up was complete; However, this constellation did not satisfy Fischer and Slajh, so St. Mark was replaced by drummer Norman Lonhard (ex- Fear My Thoughts ).

After successfully taking over the entire infrastructure including management and booking agency from the former band Celtic Frost, the band began recording their debut album Eparistera Daimones ('To my left, the demons') in August 2009 . It was released on March 22, 2010 via Century Media and contained many tracks that were once intended for the follow-up album by Celtic Frosts Monotheist . Several live concerts followed, for example at the Roadburn Festival in April 2010, where Triptykon played as the headliner. In October 2010 the band released the EP Shatter , which included three previously unreleased songs as well as two live recordings during the Roadburn Festival. In 2011 the band performed at the Wacken Open Air Festival. The album Melana Chasmata was released on April 11, 2014. On August 6, 2016, the band performed again in Wacken. A new album is planned for 2020.

Band name

The idea for the band name had several reasons. On the one hand, it was intended to pay homage to religion-themed triptychs during the Middle Ages . The reason for this was Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights , which was also featured on the cover of Celtic Frost's Into the Pandemonium , and Hans Memling's triptych The Last Judgment . Another reason for choosing the band name was that these mostly three-part images, according to Fischer, have a special influence on him in terms of creativity. In addition, the last part of his music career should begin with Triptykon.

style

The band's lyrics cover topics such as occultism , religious fanaticism , human disintegration and nihilism . The musical style of the band can often be compared to that of Celtic Frost.

Triptykon play Iceman guitars from Ibanez .
