Anti-Mortem ( Latin : Against Death ) was an American southern rock / heavy metal band from Chickasha , Oklahoma . The band was signed to Nuclear Blast and released a studio album .

history

The band was founded in 2008 by singer Larado Romo. The band was completed by Romo's brother Nevada ( guitar ), bassist Zain Smith and drummer Mitchell Henderson. The band name is derived from the term ante mortem , which the musicians misspelled out of ignorance. Zain Smith later switched to guitar while Corey Henderson took over bass. Drummer Mitchell was replaced by Levi Dickerson. In their early stages, Anti-Mortem used a barn in the yard of Zain Smith's parents as a rehearsal room and recorded several demos .

More than 300 concerts followed in the support program of various bands such as Anthrax , Killswitch Engage or Five Finger Death Punch . After a concert in the opening act of Skinlab , their singer Steev Esquivel was enthusiastic about Anti-Mortem and recommended the band to the then A&R manager of Roadrunner Records Monte Connor. Connor wanted to sign the band, which was prevented by mass layoffs at the label. The band then negotiated unsuccessfully with Century Media . In February 2013, the band was signed by Nuclear Blast Entertainment , Monte Connor's new employer.

In March 2013 the band recorded their debut album. Was produced New Southern by Bob Marlette, who previously with bands like Black Stone Cherry or Shinedown has worked. This was followed by tours in North America in support of Holy Grail and Monster Magnet . The release of New Southern took place on April 25, 2014. For the summer of 2014, a tour in the opening act of Machine Head and Lacuna Coil is planned. The album was nominated for Best Debut Album at the 2014 Metal Hammer Awards , but the award went to the band Beastmilk . In October 2014, Anti-Mortem announced their breakup after bassist Corey Henderson quit for family reasons and the Romo brothers wanted to orientate themselves differently musically.

style

Singer Larado Romo described the music of Anti-Mortem as a combination of loud guitars, hard rock - riffs and the melody and energy of heavy metal. Her record label described the music of Anti-Mortem as an "elephant wedding between Pantera and Black Stone Cherry, where the best men are called Alter Bridge and Black Label Society ". Guitarist Zain Smith named Led Zeppelin , Hurt and Mudvayne as direct influences. Further references in reviews of the debut album were Metallica , Rob Zombie and Creed , Nickelback and Shinedown, and Megadeth .
