Cyhra (proper spelling: CyHra ) is a Swedish metal - band from Gothenburg .

history

The band was founded in 2016 by the singer Joacim "Jake E." Lundberg and the guitarist Jesper Strömblad . Lundberg was previously one of three singers in the band Amaranthe . In recent years, however, he had more and more the feeling of having been relegated to a background singer, as the singer Elize Ryd moved more and more into the foreground. In February 2017, Lundberg left the band. Jesper Strömblad left the band In Flames in 2010 to fight his alcohol addiction . In the meantime he belonged to the band The Resistance . Both musicians had known each other for a long time, as Lundberg worked as a pyrotechnician for In Flames. At a coffee to Lundberg and Strömblad talked about their musical future. Both planned a solo album before Stromblad proposed to form a new band together. Bassist was with Peter Iwers another former member of In Flames. Lundberg and Strömblad invited him and played him some demos , whereupon Iwers joined the duo. The drummer was the German Alex Landenburg , who previously played with Luca Turilli's Rhapsody and Mekong Delta .

The band name Cyhra is derived from the Persian first name Cyra , which means something like moon and is supposed to indicate a cycle of renewals. Shortly after the band was founded, Cyhra was signed by the Finnish record label Spinefarm Records . With producers Jakob Herrmann and Roberto Lahgi, the band recorded their debut album in Gothenburg and New York City , which was mixed by Jacob Hansen . In the meantime, Euge Valovirta, a second guitarist, joined the band. Valovirta previously played with the Swedish band Shining and was already involved in the recordings for the album. According to Jake E. Lundberg, Valovirta was not allowed to be an official member of the band for “contractual reasons”, but had to wait for his exit at Shining. Letters to Myself was released on October 20, 2017 and debuted at number 44 on the Swedish album charts. A week later Cyhra played their first concert in Helsinki .

After a tour through North America as a support act for Kreator and Sabaton , bassist Peter Iwers left in early May 2018. At first the band wanted to look for a successor, but then left it with a “Mr. Asus “called computer. At the Metal Hammer Awards 2018, Letters to Myself was nominated in the category Best Debut Album. However, the award went to the band Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons . After that, the band recorded their second studio album that was produced by Jacob Hansen. For family reasons, Jesper Strömblad suspended the concerts in December 2018. Marcus Junesson from the band Engel helped out as a substitute . In August 2019 the band signed a new record deal with Nuclear Blast Records and released their second studio album No Halos in Hell on November 15, 2019 . The album was produced by Jacob Hansen.
